Abby Rose and the Happy Bean Project

The Happy Bean Project connects a coffee venture, volunteer outreach and a commitment that began before Abby Rose’s studio career.

A coffee venture with another purpose

Rose founded the Happy Bean Project in 2019, during her time in the Marine Corps. Its early form was a small online coffee shop, with a purpose that reached beyond selling a drink: supporting people facing difficult circumstances.

The coffee business and the outreach were connected from the beginning. In her later conversation with Lexis Star, Rose described coffee shops as a source of funding for the project, linking ordinary commercial work with practical community support.

From one idea to volunteer teams

Her account of the early project includes fellow service members joining the volunteer effort. A later project statement describes teams taking warm drinks and conversation to people experiencing homelessness in multiple US and Canadian cities before the pandemic.

The later Texas chapter centres on local outreach events. The story moves from teams working across several cities to a more local setting, while keeping the connection between volunteer participation and meeting people where they are.

Supplies and connections

The practical work has included distributing food, clothing and hygiene products. Those are immediate needs, while the project’s broader public description also includes helping people connect with housing, employment assistance and mental-health resources.

Food and hygiene products address day-to-day needs; contacts for housing or employment can open a different conversation. Both strands appear in the project’s account of what community support involves.

Continuity through a career change

On The Lexis Star Show, Rose explained that her creative earnings had taken over the funding role previously filled by the coffee businesses. The form of her working life changed while the outreach remained part of her account.

This places the Happy Bean Project on its own timeline. It began before her studio debut and continued into later professional chapters, connecting an earlier initiative with the independent livelihood she went on to build.
